I extend my heartiest greetings to you and your family on India's 64th Independence Day.

No doubt the country has made tremendous progress during the last 64 years. Yet, there are numerous problems that stare us in our face even today. The pride of every Indian in hosting the 19th Commonwealth Games gets shattered when we hear the news of corruption, favouritism, etc. etc. in organising the games. Deteriorating law and order situation, persistently escalating prices, threats to internal & external security, unemployment, etc. etc. are the issues of serious concern for our polity.

However, I feel that India has the inherent capacity to come out of all such crises. Let us today collectively reiterate our commitment for making our Nation strong, prosperous and self-reliant.

All the best wishes to you and your family for a happy and prosperous Dussehra.

It is a festival of the victory of Truth over Falsehood, Dharma over Adharma and all good things over all evil.

The entire nation celebrates this festival with zeal and enthusiasm. A visit to any of the places where Dussehra is celebrated makes one feel as if the entire population of that area has come out to participate in the celebrations and witness the burning of the effigies of Ravan, Kumbhkaran and Meghnath at sunset. This is an indication as to how deep and strong the roots of our cultural heritage are in our society.

Let us learn from the past, evolve new ideas in the present and march vigorously for a better future for our great nation. Let us make our nation so strong that even 100 Ravans may not be able to do any harm to us.
